Objectives
Article 1º – The Library and Biomedical Information Service – SBiB/ICB aims to:
I. provide bibliographic support in support of teaching, research and extension in the biomedical area;
II. keep up-to-date and, as far as possible, complete the collections in the area, as well as the indicated basic and complementary bibliographies;
III. ensure the safety, conservation, maintenance of collections and permanent assets.
Structure
Article 2º – The SBiB is subordinated to the Technical Administrative Assistance of ICB/USP, and is composed of:
I. Library Commission;
II. Technical Head of the Library;
III. Information Processing Section;
IV. User Support Section.
Sole Paragraph – The functioning of the SBiB is regulated by this Regulation and by the superior legislation of the University of São Paulo, as well as by its Internal Regulation and normative acts.
The Library Committee
Article 3º – The Library Commission will be made up of 07 (seven) members, as follows:
I. 01 (One) professor appointed jointly, by mutual agreement, by the Departments of Anatomy, Cellular and Developmental Biology,
Physiology and Biophysics and Pharmacology, with a term of 02 (two) years;
II. (One) professor appointed jointly, by mutual agreement, by the Departments of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology, with a mandate of 02 (two) years;
III. The Technical Head of the Library and, in his absence, his official substitute;
IV. 01 (one) Library employee, elected by peers, with a term of 02 (two) years, who will occupy the position of secretary;
V. 02 (two) students elected by peers, with a term of 1 (one) year, being:
a. 01 (one) undergraduate student;
b. 01 (one) graduate student;
VI. 01 (one) member of the ICB community, nominated and invited, jointly, by mutual agreement, by the two groups of departments indicated in items I and II of this article, with a term of office of 02 (two) years, reelection being allowed.
§1º – The Library Commission (CoB) will have a President, professor, appointed by vote of the 07 members chosen according to the criteria of the items above, with a mandate of 2 years. The mandates will be independent and in the vacancy of the position of President or faculty member, the indications will be resumed according to the criteria presented above.
§2º – The CoB will meet in two ordinary annual sessions, called by the President with at least 5 calendar days in advance.
§3º – The sessions will be held in first and second call, with the absolute majority of its members and in third call with any number. The interval between calls will be 10 (ten) minutes.
§4º – At the request of the Presidency of CoB or upon request of the absolute majority of the members of the Collegiate, extraordinary sessions may be convened, at least 24 (twenty-four) hours in advance.
§5º – It is incumbent upon the President of the CoB:
The Head of Technical Service
Article 4º – It is incumbent upon the Head of technical Service, headed by a bachelor in Librarianship, with the Information Processing and User Assistance Sections:
I. advise the Administrative Assistance/ICB;
II. provide indicators to compose various ICB reports;
III. manage human, institutional and financial resources;
IV. promote and monitor the development of the work team;
V. cooperate with the USP Libraries and Digital Collections Agency (ABCD/USP);
VI. provide statistical data to the Digital Libraries and Collections Agency – ABCD/USP through the Individual Report by Library – RIBi for the composition of the USP Statistical Yearbook
VII. manage the operation of the “Lactário”, as well as the conservation of the local heritage assets;
VIII. to propose, the higher instances of the ICB, structural projects to improve the physical space of the Library.
Technical Sections
Article 5º – The Information Processing Section is responsible for:
I. carry out the activities of technical treatment of documents and bibliographic materials;
II. prepare a catalog sheet;
III. carry out activities related to the cataloging of bibliographic material, indexing, including collection activities, curation and registration of the scientific production of the ICB/USP faculty;
IV. carry out and manage conservation and preservation activities for circulation collections and rare and special works.
Article 6º – The User Service Section is responsible for:
I. serve and guide users;
II. coordinate activities involving USP’s Automated Loan System;
III. conduct training on biomedical information sources for undergraduate and graduate students;
IV. coordinate guided visits;
V. transfer to the ICB communication channels ABCD/USP scientific releases and local reports;
VI. develop promotional materials such as videos and various tutorials; keep the Library page up to date;
VII. provide data and indicators of scientific production for ICB’s Board of Directors and Research Commission;
VIII. carry out procurement activities, as well as accountability to ABCD/USP;
IX. prepare various reports.
Financial and Equity Resources
Article 7º – It will be up to ABCD/USP to provide resources for the development, maintenance and updating of the library’s collections.
Parágrafo único – Any Discipline, Sector or Department/ICB is prohibited from acquiring works with funds from ABCD/USP. The bibliographic material acquired through research projects must be incorporated into the Library’s collection as established by the Development Agencies.
Article 8º – The SBiB/ICB may raise funds and assistance from Research Promotion Agencies, as well as from other public and private sources, upon approval by the Library Commission and the Technical-Administrative Council of the ICB.
